FAR Part 61 requirements:

• Hold at least a valid Private Pilot Certificate
• Be able to read, speak and understand the English language
• Hold at least a third-class airman's medical.
• Pass a written examination on aeronautical knowledge
• Pass a practical examination on maneuvers and procedures.
• 250 hours of flight time including:
  • 10 hours of instrument training
  • 10 hours of complex or technically advanced training.
  • One 2-hour day-time cross-country, straight-line distance of 100nm.
  • One 2-hour night-time cross-country, straight-line distance of 100nm

Not a requirement but most students need approx. 15-10 hours of maneuvers training for the practical test.
